Our Commitment to Your Privacy
The CyI High Performance Computing Facility (HPCF) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your data. This policy outlines how we handle data you provide when you use our HPC systems. Our practices are compliant with both the Cyprus Institute's main Privacy Policy and the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). By creating an account, you agree to this policy.
Data Security and Access
We treat your personal and project data as confidential information. Access to your data is strictly controlled:
- Your personal home directory is accessible only by you.
- Your project's directory is accessible only by the registered members of your project.
- HPCF system administrators have privileged access to all directories for the sole purpose of system maintenance and providing technical support. They will not access, alter, or share user data unless specifically requested by the data owner.
Data Retention and Backup
Backup Policy
It is critical to understand that data in user home directories and project directories is **NOT BACKED UP** by the facility. It is solely the user's responsibility to back up their important data to systems outside of the HPCF.
Data Retention
- Project Data: Data left on the systems after the expiration of a project is deleted unless a specific written agreement is made with the head of the HPC Facility.
- Scratch Directory: Files in the scratch directory are automatically deleted **30 days** after their last access time. Empty directories in scratch are also deleted after 30 days.
This Policy is subject to change without notice. Last updated: July 2024.
